Scale Modeling and Trains

Trying to find a hobby and going back to my inner child, trains, rc slot cars, modeling always seemed to fascinate me. I got the inspiration on my trip to Waupaca. There was a rail depot museum and in the basement the guys there who ran the place had a beautiful elaborate model railroad layout. So I took the plunge and bought some things.

Fixed My Smaller Television

My Samsung HDTV went out the other day because the LED indicator light kept blinking when it was plugged in and it would not power on. After all the standard troubleshooting produced no results, I came to the conclusion that it needed a new main/power board. So I ordered one on eBay and replaced the faulty one and now it’s working like it should. So happy this fix was cheaper than buying a new TV.

Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich

As you can probably tell from my previous post about Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes, I’m in love with the sandwich! Anyways, I found this frozen thinly sliced beef sirloin at Jewel and it’s also available in bulk at Costco under a different brand. It cooks quickly and all you gotta do is add some garlic salt and pepper. First, I sautéed some green peppers, onions, and mushrooms. Then, I seasoned & cooked the beef, and after it was done, mixed everything together. Finally, I put all that goodness on a bun with a generous amount of provolone cheese and that sandwich was ready to meet its maker!

The Dog Days of Summer

It has been a very eventful Summer so far. Work is getting busier because I’m setting up and running more machines. That is good because the work day goes by faster. I’ve been doing a lot of grilling. We took a trip to Kenosha, Wisconsin for the Fourth of July. I did my semiannual oil change and tire rotation on my car. We have been spending a lot of time at the pool soaking in all that vitamin D from the sunshine. In a few weeks, we have a long weekend getaway planned to central Wisconsin. The Summer is going by quick, but it’s been a lot of fun.

Summer Is Almost Officially Here

The girls are out of school for the Summer. Next year Evie will be starting middle school. We took a nice 11 mile hike down an abandoned railroad line called the Chicago & Northwestern Railway. We walked from Skokie to Northfield and back again. I’ve been doing more grilling now that the weather is warming up. Work is getting busier now.Pretty soon hopefully it will really warm up and we can start going to the pool more. The days are getting longer.

Weber© Traveler Portable Gas Grill

I finally decided to go get this beauty at Home Depot. Yesterday, I got her out for a delicious chicken kabob dinner. It turned out amazing!

Instead of the 1 lb. propane canisters that she uses by default, I rigged her for a 20 lb. propane tank so I could get more cooking time out of her. She works like a charm! I would definitely suggest getting this portable, powerful gas grill. It’s especially useful for tailgating or if you live in a smaller space. No complaints here. I can’t wait to grill on her some more now that Summer is right around the corner.

Time: The Greatest Commodity of All

April is rapidly coming to an end and before we know it, school will be out for the kids and Summer will be here. I have just been busy working and spending what free time I do have with the family. Erin is in swimming lessons. Evie has violin and she will be going to her outdoor education retreat next week. We have some plans for the Fourth of July weekend in Kenosha. It’s starting to get busier.

I’ve got to get my fishing license because I have my rods, reels, and lures collecting dust. And I’ve been thinking this for the longest time, yet I can’t get myself to exercise more frequently (especially after a long day at work). I’ve got to try harder.

I found a cool website that archived a lot of Geocities websites from the 90s/2000s. Those were the days, when simple things seemed so mysterious. Here is the link: https://geocities.restorativland.org
